Located in the beautiful town of Danville, Virginia, Danville Family Vet is a fully equipped veterinary facility staffed with an experienced and professional team. We foster a team approach with mutual support and a culture of learning. We are an AAHA accredited, certified Fear-Free and Cat Friendly practice, leaders in the area in behavioral medicine and dentistry and provide a wide range of veterinary services.  We pride ourselves on progressive medicine and compassionate care for patients and clients.  Engaged communication with clients and client experience is a top priority for our team. We are looking for a full-time veterinarian that is analytical, detail oriented, full of personality, and is looking to thrive with strong mentorship available. 

Hours of Operation: Mon - Fri 7 am - 6pm

                                 Sat 8 am - 2 pm - rotating every 3 

Role responsibilities and skills:

  • Perform physical examinations, diagnose and treat diseases, and provide preventive care 
  • Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including (but not limited to) spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory, cystotomies, mass removals and orthopedics
  • Perform full dental examinations, evaluation of dental radiographs, as well as simple and complex extractions and oral surgical procedures
  • Develop diagnostic and treatment plans for patients based on differential diagnoses developed through complete problem-based assessment
  • Transition patients to overnight care as needed and communicate effectively with referral hospitals in order to ensure continuity of patient care
  • Document patient medical and surgical records with detail on all patient exam findings, diagnostics, treatments, medications, client interactions and tentative and confirmed diagnoses
  • Possess professional level verbal and written communication
  • Develop a rapport with clients, understand their desires, clearly communicate exam findings of pet’s problems, present treatment plan and educate clients on preventive health care
  • Stay up to date with new medical information and changes in veterinary medicine, attend Continuing Education meetings
  • Positively represent the hospital in the professional community and to the general public
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Take safety precautions for exposure to drugs, anesthesia, and radiation

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from accredited university.
  • Licensure in good standing to practice in the state of which the applicant is applying.
  • 2 years experience desirable, but new graduates apply!
  • Compassionate team player with a positive attitude and excellent communication.
  • Committed to practicing the highest standard of medicine and uphold the veterinary code of ethics.
  • Excellent communication skills, time management, conflict management and organizational skills.
  • Special interests in feline medicine, dentistry or ultrasound are an asset. 
  • Follow OSHA standards by demonstrating proper use of PPE when handling hazardous materials/chemicals/drugs and using medical imaging techniques such as radiology and other diagnostic procedures. Practice best safety precautions to prevent workplace hazards, ie: placing Wet Floor signs in visible area before mopping the floor and in place until the floor is dry and reporting any potential workplace hazards to management.
  • Advanced animal handling, restraint, surgical and medical procedures experience.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds or more with assistance.
  • Tasks may involve prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking, kneeling, crawling, bending, lifting, balancing, and crouching.
  • Ability to work around sick or fractious animals, zoonotic diseases, hazardous materials and cleaning chemicals and anesthetic gas.
